Write pages an AI can quote

How to structure SaaS pages so assistants can lift a clear answer: answer capsules, self-contained sections, specific claims and visible dates.

This guide shows you how to rewrite a page so each section contains a passage an assistant could quote as it stands.

An assistant building an answer looks for short passages that state something plainly and make sense on their own. Most marketing pages do not have any. They bury the answer under positioning, split it across tabs, or say nothing specific enough to repeat.

Writing for quotation is mostly good writing with a few habits added.

Short on time? Comppound does this work for SaaS companies. AI-native, and a person reviews every page.

Answer capsules

An answer capsule is a short paragraph directly under a heading that answers the heading's question in full. Two to four sentences, no preamble, with the key fact in the first sentence. The rest of the section can expand on it.

Make each section stand alone

Assistants often take a passage without the paragraphs around it. A section that starts with “As mentioned above” or relies on a table further up loses its meaning when lifted. Name the product and the subject in each section rather than writing “it”.

Comppound can do this for you

Want to be named in AI answers?

Comppound checks what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI features say about your category, opens your site to their crawlers and builds the pages and mentions they cite. AI-native, with every page reviewed by a person.

  • AI visibility baseline for your buyer questions
  • Crawler access and quotable pages
  • Monthly tracking of where you are named

Be specific

Vague claims give an assistant nothing to repeat. Specific, checkable statements do.

  • Instead of “flexible pricing”, state each plan's price and what it includes
  • Instead of “integrates with your stack”, list the integrations and what syncs
  • Instead of “trusted by teams”, name the kind of team it suits and the kind it does not

Show freshness and authorship

Show a visible last-updated date on pages that change, such as pricing and comparisons, and keep it honest. Name who wrote or reviewed the page. Both help readers judge the page, and they give assistants a reason to prefer it over an undated alternative.

Tallyroom's pricing answer, before and after

The before version was accurate but had nothing an assistant could quote. The after version can be lifted whole.

BeforeAfter
Simple pricing that grows with you. See plans below.Tallyroom costs a flat monthly fee per user on the Team plan, with invoicing and the Xero sync included. The Starter plan is free for one user.
Works with the tools you love.Tallyroom syncs approved hours to Xero and QuickBooks as draft invoices. It does not sync expenses.

Do it yourself

Add capsules to one page

  1. 1Pick a comparison or pricing page.
  2. 2Rewrite each H2 as the question a buyer would ask.
  3. 3Under each, write a two to four sentence answer that names the product.
  4. 4Remove any “as above” references.
  5. 5Add a visible last-updated date and an author or reviewer.

Common mistakes

Writing for robots

Capsules are for readers first. A page written as a list of stiff definitions reads badly and earns no links.

Hiding answers in tabs and accordions

Content that needs a click to appear may be skipped or weighted lower. Keep key answers visible.

Overclaiming

A claim an assistant cannot corroborate elsewhere is less likely to be repeated, and more likely to hurt trust if it is.

Questions

Only where buyers really ask those questions. An FAQ of invented questions adds length without adding answers.
