When AI gets your product wrong

What to do when ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI features describe your SaaS product inaccurately: tracing the source, fixing it and outdoing it.

This guide shows you how to trace a wrong AI answer about your product to its source and correct it.

Assistants sometimes say a product lacks a feature it has, quote old prices, or name it in the wrong category. You cannot edit an answer directly. You can find where the wrong information comes from and make the correct version easier to find.

Short on time? Comppound does this work for SaaS companies. AI-native, and a person reviews every page.

Have us do it

Find the source

Where an answer cites sources, open them: the wrong detail is often on an old review, an outdated comparison or one of your own forgotten pages. Where no source is cited, search for the wrong claim in quotes to find pages repeating it.

Fix what you control

Update or redirect your own outdated pages, help articles, press releases and listings. Make the correct fact easy to find: a clear sentence on the relevant page, with a date.

Comppound can do this for you

Want to be named in AI answers?

Comppound checks what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI features say about your category, opens your site to their crawlers and builds the pages and mentions they cite. AI-native, with every page reviewed by a person.

  • AI visibility baseline for your buyer questions
  • Crawler access and quotable pages
  • Monthly tracking of where you are named

Ask others to correct

For third-party pages, send the author or site a short, polite note with the correct information and a source. Review sites usually let vendors update listings directly.

Use feedback tools

Most AI products let users report a wrong answer. It is worth doing for serious errors, though fixing the underlying sources matters more.

Worked example · an illustration, not a client result

Tallyroom's pricing error

Two assistants said Tallyroom had no free plan. The source was a comparison article from before the free plan launched, and Tallyroom's own old pricing announcement.

Do it yourself

Correct one wrong answer

  1. 1Ask three assistants ten factual questions about your product.
  2. 2List every wrong or outdated detail.
  3. 3Trace each one to its likely source.
  4. 4Fix your own pages and listings first.
  5. 5Contact third-party sources with the correct information.

Common mistakes

Arguing with the assistant

Correcting it in a chat does not change what it tells others. Fix the sources.

Leaving old announcements up

Old press releases and blog posts keep outdated facts alive. Update or annotate them.

Aggressive correction requests

Polite, sourced notes get pages fixed. Threats get ignored.

Rather not do it yourself?

It varies. Retrieval-based answers can change as soon as sources are re-crawled; training data changes only with new models.

Make the correct information prominent and widely repeated. Future models and retrieval will draw on it.
