How to read the result
A cheap lead that never closes is expensive. Compare channels on cost per customer, using each channel's own close rate, before moving budget towards the lowest cost per lead.
The formula
AcquisitionCost per lead = spend ÷ leads.
Cost per customer = spend ÷ (leads × lead-to-customer rate).
Frequently asked questions
One that leaves room for profit after the close rate. Work out the most you can pay for a customer, multiply by your close rate, and that is your ceiling for a lead.
Divide what you spend on content in a period by the leads organic search produced. Unlike ads, those pages keep producing leads after the spend stops, so compare over a year or more.
