Offline Conversion Import

Offline conversion import sends CRM outcomes like qualified leads and closed deals back to ad platforms, so bidding and reporting reflect real pipeline.

Also called: OCI, CRM conversion import, offline conversions

Offline conversion import means uploading conversions that happen outside the website, usually in a CRM, back to an ad platform and matching them to the original ad click. For B2B SaaS, where the valuable event (a qualified opportunity or a closed deal) happens days or weeks after the form fill, it is how ad platforms learn which clicks actually produced revenue.

How matching works

The classic method stores the click identifier from the landing page URL (such as Google’s gclid or Microsoft’s msclkid) in a hidden form field and on the CRM record. When the lead reaches a stage you care about, you upload the click ID, the conversion name, time and value. Google, Meta and LinkedIn also accept hashed customer data such as email address, which matches conversions even when no click ID was captured.

Google recommends enhanced conversions for leads as the current approach for most advertisers, which uses hashed form data rather than click IDs alone. Uploads must arrive within the platform’s lookback window after the click, so slow sales cycles need care.

Which stages to import

  • Marketing or sales qualified lead: arrives fast enough to optimize toward.
  • Opportunity created: stronger signal, smaller volume.
  • Closed-won with contract value: the truth, but often too slow and sparse for bidding.

Automating it

Manual CSV uploads work for a test. For ongoing use, connect the CRM directly (Google Ads has native integrations with some CRMs) or use the platforms’ APIs on a schedule. Monitor upload errors: unmatched click IDs, wrong time zones and duplicate rows are common.

Example

Bidding on pipeline

Hypothetical company Cobblemere captures gclid and hashed email on its demo form, stores them in its CRM, and syncs opportunities daily to Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising with an illustrative value per opportunity. After switching bidding to optimize for opportunities, it reviews whether pipeline per dollar improves over the next quarter.

Common mistakes

Losing the click ID on redirects

Redirects, single-page app routing or form tools can drop URL parameters. Test that the ID reaches the CRM.

Ignoring the upload window

Conversions uploaded after the platform’s lookback window are rejected. Check the window for each platform and conversion action.
